Most Bitcoin websites are written by enthusiasts for enthusiasts. They assume you already know what a "hash" is, what "proof of work" means, and why anyone would care about "decentralization."

We think that's backwards. bit-coin.org exists for the person who heard about Bitcoin at dinner and Googled it afterward.

Our Approach

  • Plain language. Every concept is explained from the ground up. No assumed knowledge.
  • Honest. We cover the risks and downsides, not just the upside. Bitcoin isn't for everyone, and that's okay.
  • Practical. We don't just explain — we show you how to take action if you choose to.
  • No hype. We're not here to convince you that Bitcoin will replace the dollar. We're here to help you understand it.

Editorial Standards

  • Primary sources. Where an article makes a factual claim, we link the source a reader can check themselves: the Bitcoin whitepaper, the IRS for US tax treatment, the FTC on scams, and each platform's own published fee schedule for cost comparisons.
  • Real dates. The publish and update dates on our articles are the actual dates the content was written and revised.
  • Corrections. Fees, features, and rules change. If you spot something outdated or wrong, email hello@bit-coin.org and we'll fix it and note the update.

About This Site

The current site launched in March 2026. This domain existed long before that and previously hosted different Bitcoin-related content under prior arrangements; everything published here today was written specifically for this site. We are not affiliated with bitcoin.org, the Bitcoin Foundation, or any exchange or wallet vendor.
